Storm P Petersen This is my special tribute to one of my favourite humourists, the Dane Robert Storm Petersen. This is humour with the Danish smile, a smile with a twinkle...

Robert Storm Petersen 1882–1949

Storm P was Denmark´s most popular and prolific draughtsman during the first time of the 20th century. He made over 60 000 drawings, over 100 paintings and he wrote many short stories and satirical texts.

Originally he worked as a butcher in his native Copenhagen but his mind was set on becoming a draughtsman. At the same time as he worked as a butcher he draw and sold his works to satirical magazines of the time. He also did some acting in the theatre and created a series of short cartoon movies.

He was indignant over the troubled times and big differences between rich and poor. He created some characters of lost soul. And he equipped them with great names like Herodotos or Euripides. In the clash between the very wealthy and the very poor he lets his tramp get the last word with a philosophical and humorous reply.

Storm P also made drawings for children´s books and he wrote satirical monologues for the cabaret. Later he was hired by the city´s biggest newspaper. In his time he was a very well known character in Copenhagen, known for his compassion for the poor and well aware of the hardship of life for many, which he described in his drawings in a sure and funny way.

Now, enjoy some of his drawings and texts in my Storm P Pages.
